Dr Cathy Balding, Qualityworks, Pty. Ltd
Prior to founding Qualityworks, Cathy Balding enjoyed a career in quality management in the public health sector at national, state and health service levels in both rural and metropolitan settings, culminating in her role as Manager of the Victorian Quality Council. Cathy’s work and PhD research have focused on practical planning and implementation of quality and safety programs in health care facilities, and incorporate her experience as an ACHS accreditation surveyor and as an Adjunct Associate Professor in the School of Public Health at La Trobe University.

She has provided strategic and high level advice on the development of quality programs at state and national levels and has published widely in Australian and international refereed journals.  Over the past 5 years she has authored the Victorian and South Australian Safety and Quality Frameworks,  and a Clinical Excellence in Cancer Care Framework for Victorian health services. She is currently developing and facilitating 'Advanced Quality Manager' workshops for The Australian Council on Healthcare Standards.

 

Ms Kaye Blackburn, coaching4success
Until recently, Kaye was the Director of Learning & Development for Mater Health Services Brisbane Ltd. Kaye has transitioned into her own business as a coach and facilitator.
She has an impressive background in the corporate world with over 20 years experience in management and leadership in a variety of clinical, management, leadership and academic roles. Her background in university and corporate training and development, group facilitation and individual and team coaching provides a strong platform for developing individual and group performance.

As a leader, Kaye is best known for leading the change to online learning within the health sector.
In 2003 Kaye received a national scholarship to undertake further study into eLearning. In 2006 she was a finalist for an Australian National Training Award and in 2007 a finalist for the national iAwards.
Kaye is an International Coach Federation Credentialed Coach, is the President of the Queensland Chapter of the International Coach Federation and is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Professional Facilitators.
And most importantly - Kaye is a nurse!

 
Professor Enrico Coiera, The University of New South Wales
After graduating from Sydney University Medical School in Australia, I worked as a resident medical officer at the Royal North Shore Hospital for two years. I then undertook a Masters degree in Biomedical Engineering, followed by a PhD in artificial intelligence at the School of Computer Science, University of New South Wales . My thesis explored the design of an intelligent monitor system for use in Intensive Care. I developed an interest in qualitative modelling and machine learning. I moved on to be the Head of the Clinical Computing Department back at the Royal North Shore Hospital, before moving to the UK. I then joined Hewlett Packard's Bristol Laboratories in 1990, where I initiated and lead projects focussing on the application of information and communication technologies. The projects have included:
  • Intelligent signal interpretation for patient monitors
  • User-interface design for an anaesthesia workstation
  • Protocol-support systems for anaesthesia
  • Protocol-support systems for home insulin management
  • Study of the role of communication in healthcare
  • Advanced mobile voice and data systems for healthcare workers
In 1999 I returned to Australia where I have set up a new research Centre for Health Informatics at the University of New SOuth Wales, and hold the Foundation Chair in Medical Informatics.
 
Professor George Rubin, The University of Sydney
Professor Rubin is leading the development of the Department of Public Health and Community Medicine at Westmead Hospital. The Department, a unit of both the Western Sydney Area Health Service and the University of Sydney School of the same name, engages in teaching and research and provides a clinical epidemiology, biostatistics and effectiveness service for the Area Health Service.
 

Professor Jill White, The University of Sydney
Professor Jill White is currently the Dean of the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery at The University of Sydney, having taken up this position at the end of January 2008.  Previous to this Jill was the Dean of the Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery and Health at the University of Technology Sydney for 10 years.

Jill has held several prominent positions within Nursing and Midwifery, including membership of the National Nursing and Network Education Taskforce (N³ET), and a Directorship of the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council (ANMC). Jill was primarily responsible for the  development of the World Health Organisation Collaborating Centre in Nursing and Midwifery and Health Development, currently the only one in Australia. She is currently President of the NSW Nurses and Midwives Board.

Jill is a Registered Nursing and Registered Midwife and has a Masters degree in Education from the University of Sydney and a PhD from the University of Adelaide entitled “The Commodification of Caring”.

Jill is passionate about nursing and midwifery’s contribution to improving health services and enhancing the experience of those in need of our care.
