Green Initiatives
The AELERT 2010 Organising Committee is committed to hosting as environmentally friendly a Conference as possible, and seeks your support to ensure a low Conference footprint is achieved. To help you (and the Organisers) achieve this goal, here are a few initiatives we are hoping delegates will support:
Offsetting Carbon Emissions
How big is your carbon footprint? Would you like to offset the impact of it? Use the online calculator at Carbon Neutral to estimate your total emissions and find out what you can do to offset them. The calculator allows you to input information related to energy use, travel, flights, food, and waste. It will provide an estimate of your emissions in tonnes of carbon dioxide or equivalent (CO2e) and enable you to easily see the percentage of the total that each sector makes up.It will also advise you on the cost to offset these emissions with Carbon Neutral. Alternatively, most airlines offer passengers the opportunity to fly carbon neutral by offsetting flight emissions. Please visit your airline website for more information.
Printing
Wherever possible the Conference Organisers have utilised the conference website and electronic communications (eg. emails and PDFs) as an alternative to printing documents and mailing them out. In the circumstances where hard copies are required of conference documents, these will be printed on the most environmentally friendly paper stock we are able to source.
Name Badges
Name badge return facilities will be provided onsite so that delegates can recycle their name badges and lanyards
Catering
Fresh food leftovers from the conference will be donated to OZHarvest and shared with people in need
